The possibly grim reality of the future if Earth

Grim Reality for the Earth's Future

Earths temperature is increasing rapidly and it seems to have a compound interest type of pattern. Current projections show that not only is Earth warming, the rate at which it is warming is increasing as well, almost like the stock markets famous compound interest rate. This is obviously an issue and in order to address it we need to first understand why this is happening.

Earth is warming due to high levels of harmful gases known as greenhouse gases building up in the atmosphere. This buildup is largely due to humans and their activities. With that being said, human beings actions in the next 70 years is the biggest precursor to the future health of our planet and survival of our species. How much energy will we use? How big will the population be? These are all questions we need to ask ourselves and plan for if we are going to try and setup a solution.

Speaking of solutions there only seems to be two. Option one is to somehow remove the gases from our atmosphere, essentially create some kind of pump to pump this gas into space. However, we would need to somehow create a hole in our atmosphere which to our knowledge is what began this issue in the first place. The second and more viable option is to reduce human emissions, or cut back on the greenhouse gases. However, this also has its own set of issues, as humans depend on machines that produce these gases as byproducts to go about their daily lives. These emissions are essentially built into human infrastructure, jobs, transportation, and economies. Removing them would mean an entire reshaping of populations, economies, and countries. One option that is being looked at is actually turning the Midwest plains into a massive forest. However, watering and fertilization would be an issue not to mention the common presence of tornadoes in that area.

Nonetheless, this is an issue that needs to be talked about now as projections are predicting the worst for Earth. (337 words)
